The Overlooked Value of Enthusiasm Amidst Love and Kindness

Written on

Chapter 1: The Pressure to Care

There are moments when I simply don’t feel the urge to care. This isn’t due to a lack of compassion—my ex might argue otherwise—but rather a reaction to the overwhelming expectation to be concerned about every global issue. It’s like a universal peer pressure that I’ve learned to sidestep.

Since my childhood, I’ve actively distanced myself from societal norms and peer pressure at school. Did this make me stand out? Certainly—I had red hair and freckles that drew attention regardless. I broke free from family traditions the moment I could, and that became a way of life for me. These traditions often included:

  • Forced smiles and handshakes at birthday gatherings,
  • Snide comments from relatives about my cooking,
  • And heated debates among family members about political topics that no one truly understood.

Even now, I avoid environments that foster such negativity. Can you relate to that? I’ve made the conscious choice to cultivate a peaceful home, free from toxic influences. Gone are the heated phone conversations and intrusive visitors. I’ve essentially created an invisible barrier around my sanctuary, where we can plan and be ourselves.

This respect and appreciation for my space have grown, especially following a tumultuous divorce filled with unsolicited advice disguised as 'help.'

Section 1.1: The Spotlight on Kindness and Love

It’s no surprise that kindness often receives more attention than care. Kindness requires little effort—just a smile or a simple greeting can classify you as kind in the eyes of many. Love, however, is more complex. It frequently gets mistaken for care.

It’s crucial to clarify your intentions regarding when, where, why, and how you wish to give and receive love. Doing so can prevent unnecessary heartache and wasted time. Finding a partner with whom you can cultivate a fulfilling life is beneficial, but remember: you must be in a relationship to love, whereas caring can exist independently.

Caring is a different realm altogether. It occupies the space between kindness and love, often feeling awkward, especially when you’re on the receiving end. Care is a delicate matter; even the best intentions can be misinterpreted as intrusive or patronizing.

Section 1.2: The Power of Enthusiasm

I have a deep appreciation for enthusiasm for various reasons. When you radiate good vibes, you can witness others emerging from their shells and embracing a more positive outlook. Enthusiasm serves as motivation during tough times, providing resilience and a spirited attitude. It sparks creativity, leading to fresh ideas and making you approachable.

However, some individuals may attempt to temper your enthusiasm. They might view you as overly eccentric or may feel uncomfortable in your joyous presence, especially in serious settings. Jealousy or insecurity can also play a role in dampening your excitement, with some people perceiving enthusiasm as naïveté.

As I see it:

  • A smile reflects kindness.
  • To care, proceed with caution to avoid being perceived as unwelcome.
  • Establish clear boundaries when seeking love.
  • Protect your enthusiasm; it’s a vital source of internal motivation.

Balancing your kind, caring, and loving nature with your enthusiasm is key to navigating various situations.

Chapter 2: The Essential Act of Self-Belief

Have you noticed how people emphasize the importance of loving others and being kind? Yet, there’s another crucial aspect that often gets overlooked: believing in oneself. Being your own biggest supporter is vital—it’s about recognizing your worth, even if nobody else does.

Boosting self-belief involves celebrating those small victories that others might overlook. There’s nothing wrong with acknowledging your own greatness, even in silence. I prefer to enhance my self-confidence quietly, utilizing reading and journaling as a distraction-free method.

Ultimately, it boils down to living authentically and making choices without apology. Staying true to yourself is what truly matters, regardless of external opinions. If journaling resonates with you, I invite you to explore some resources to get started on that journey.
