A Simple Reminder: This Moment Will Eventually Fade
Written on
Understanding the Nature of Suffering
How often do you find yourself resisting discomfort when it arises?
It's unrealistic to expect constant motivation and enthusiasm for your goals. Even in the best of times, feelings of doubt and anxiety can infiltrate your mind. These moments are inevitable and cannot be entirely avoided.
When faced with uncertainty, do you push back? Do you employ motivational strategies in hopes of reigniting your passion?
While such methods might resonate with you, if they fail to revive your energy, they could lead to a deeper sense of apathy. You might wonder how you could have felt so vibrant just yesterday.
It's crucial to remember that a temporary inability to feel passionate doesn’t negate the authenticity of your enthusiasm. Sometimes, the most constructive response is to release your struggle and trust that this feeling will pass. There's no need to stress over feelings of listlessness or diminished motivation.
These challenging moments are transient, and they, too, shall fade away.
Acknowledging and Accepting Discomfort
Experiencing difficulties in navigating suffering can sometimes result in self-destructive actions. If you strive to reignite your passion but find yourself unsuccessful, you may momentarily convince yourself that you no longer care. This can lead to behaviors such as overeating, substance abuse, or wasting time late into the night.
To declare “this too shall pass” is to embrace faith. It’s a belief that, even when you can’t feel that spark, it still exists. It’s recognizing that these feelings are a part of the human experience and that enduring them is essential.
You don’t always need a solution for these energy dips; acceptance is key. Recognizing that these feelings are temporary allows you to navigate them more gracefully — to suffer well by not letting negativity define you.
When you’re unable to access the excitement that typically fuels your life, resist the urge to overanalyze. Instead, acknowledge this feeling’s presence and remind yourself:
This too shall pass.
