Three Essential Lessons for Achieving Success in Life
Written on
Chapter 1: The Pursuit of True Success
Jesus exemplified the ideal way of living, and striving to emulate his teachings is a lifelong journey. While perfection may be unattainable, God desires our commitment and effort. Here are three significant insights I've gained from Jesus regarding how to achieve genuine success in life.
“And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith” (Heb. 12:2, NIV).
God’s call to us is not about achieving perfection, but about being faithful. He invites us to dedicate our lives to him, doing our utmost to live according to His will. Though our faith may falter, we can always look to Jesus as the source and model of our faith. Here are three vital lessons we can take from his teachings to lead successful lives.
Section 1.1: The Importance of Letting Go
- Release the Need to Control Everything.
“Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” (Matt. 6:27, NIV).
Jesus reminded his followers that, unlike those in positions of power among the Gentiles, they should not exert control over others (Mark 10:42, NIV). He encouraged them to trust fully in God and to embrace the present moment without the burden of control.
When you find yourself fixating on controlling every detail of your life and those around you, challenge yourself to relinquish that need and place your trust in God.
Section 1.2: Embracing Growth from Mistakes
- Don’t Dwell on Past Mistakes.
“Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: ‘Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.’ And he went outside and wept bitterly” (Matt. 26:75, NIV).
Jesus had foretold Peter's denial, which devastated him when it came to pass. After his resurrection, however, Jesus specifically instructed his followers to let Peter know he was coming to meet him (Mark 16:7, NIV). This was a powerful reminder that Peter should not waste time in self-blame but instead focus on the important tasks that lay ahead.
When you err, remind yourself to learn from the experience rather than wallowing in regret. Jesus has meaningful work for you; don’t let past mistakes hold you back.
Section 1.3: The Power of Kindness
- Show Kindness Regardless of Treatment.
“If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also” (Matt. 5:39, NIV).
At the core of Jesus' teachings is a revolutionary ethic of love. He instructed his disciples to love their adversaries and pray for those who wrong them (Matt. 5:44). His reasoning? It’s easy to love those who treat us well; true divine love shines when we extend kindness even to those who mistreat us.
As articulated by the Apostle John, “We love because he first loved us” (1 John 4:19, NIV). When faced with negative treatment, strive to respond with grace and respect.
I hope these insights assist you in cultivating a more fulfilling life in harmony with God and those around you!
