Exploring the Emotional Journey of Plant-Based Nutrition

Chapter 1: The Impact of Animal Welfare on Diet Choices
Lately, I've found myself increasingly drawn to videos depicting the treatment of animals destined for slaughter.
As I navigate social media, particularly Instagram, it’s evident that the platform excels at curating content that resonates with my interests. For instance, a recent post featured a distressed cow, evoking a profound sense of empathy within me. While my observations may be anecdotal, I can no longer turn a blind eye to the suffering of these animals.
I wouldn't label myself as a vegan or even a strict vegetarian. My meat intake has diminished over the years, mainly due to health considerations. As an avid runner, I've noticed I feel more energized and better overall when I adhere to a predominantly plant-based diet. While I don't assert that my nutritional choices are rooted in scientific research, I genuinely believe that steering clear of meat—particularly from large-scale industrial sources—has been beneficial.
Still, I do indulge in meat occasionally, about once a month, often choosing chicken.
Unexpectedly, I've started to grasp the emotional dimensions that shape people's beliefs regarding animal welfare and the necessity for compassion towards all living beings.
The transition to a fully plant-based lifestyle will not occur overnight. One of the challenges I face with veganism is the considerable time commitment it demands. I can't simply switch to a diet of greens; I must ensure I receive all essential nutrients, especially since I engage in high-mileage running each week. Recently, I had the opportunity to stay with a vegan Indian family. Their meals were exquisite, but I observed that they dedicated substantial time to cooking and preparation. Cooking is not my forte, particularly when it comes to more intricate vegan recipes. I've been advised to explore Instant Pot recipes, which I might consider trying.
For the moment, I’ll stick to straightforward dishes like beans and Brussels sprouts.
Ultimately, I feel that I will likely evolve towards either vegetarianism or veganism.
I'm not swayed by the arguments surrounding our ancestors' hunting practices. I firmly believe that with thoughtful planning, it’s entirely feasible to obtain all necessary nutrients from a vegan diet.
My choices are motivated by what brings me inner peace and balance. As I often say, everyone has their path. I'm not here to judge or promote a specific viewpoint—just sharing my personal insights.
