Empowering Women's Voices in Tech Through the Boost Program

Chapter 1: Introduction to the Boost Nomination Pilot
Recently, I received an email from Ariel Meadow Stallings inviting me to be a part of the Medium Boost Nomination Program, and I was truly honored. My journey began when I created the Women in Tech publication, aiming to discover and highlight stories from women on Medium who discuss technology and career-related topics that resonate with me.
My main goal was to forge connections with fellow women passionate about technology and writing, and in doing so, I discovered a vibrant community. Alongside technical tutorials, I encountered heartfelt narratives that women shared about their personal and professional journeys.
Every day, I feel a growing sense of gratitude for launching this publication! The tech industry is predominantly male, so finding women who openly share their experiences and vulnerabilities is refreshing.
As I connect with women globally—like Crafted Codes | Lea, AD?LE GÜNGÖR, Luchiana Dumitrescu, Gabriela Trofin-Tatár, Meiraf Dawit, and Lu Lopez—I'm reminded of the diverse backgrounds and experiences we all bring. Many others are part of this community, and while I can't name everyone, I appreciate our connections through Medium.
The Women in Technology publication aims to amplify women's voices in the tech industry. Recently, I shared with Medium my excitement about promoting women's stories in this often male-dominated space, showcasing remarkable articles and inspiring narratives, whether they are technical or not.
Chapter 2: The Role of a Boost Nominator
As a Boost Nominator, I have the privilege of recommending stories to the Medium curation team. This opportunity can significantly enhance the visibility of these stories, reaching a wider audience and potentially attracting thousands of new readers. Consequently, this can lead to increased traffic and revenue for the well-crafted stories that writers have dedicated so much effort to create.
It's essential to note that while nominating a story increases its chances of being selected by Medium’s curation team, it does not guarantee acceptance. However, stories that are thoughtfully crafted have a better likelihood of receiving a boost.
How Are Stories Boosted?
You might wonder how your stories can receive this valuable boost. First, it's crucial to consider whether your story enriches the reader's life. Ask yourself questions such as:
- Does this story connect with readers on a deeper level?
- Will it inspire and motivate them?
- Am I sharing a unique experience, or merely reiterating common themes?
Even if your topic is widely discussed, like the challenges faced by women in technology, your unique perspective is what truly matters for getting your story boosted.
Criteria for Boosting Stories
Before I consider boosting your story, I will reflect on several key questions:
- Is the content original and authored by a human?
- Does the author possess relevant knowledge and experience?
- Is the narrative well-crafted and impactful?
I will be particularly on the lookout for stories that cover topics such as:
- Women in Tech
- Technology
- Programming
- Career Advice
- Lessons Learned
The Importance of Topic Tags
When it comes to boosting stories, proper topic tagging is crucial. Ideally, every nominated story should encompass at least one topic from the Explore page. Remember to utilize the Medium Main tags effectively to enhance your story's visibility.
As of now, only stories written in English are eligible for boosting. Adherence to Medium's guidelines is imperative; stories that violate these rules will not qualify for distribution through Medium’s network. For further clarification, you can refer to the FAQ section that Ariel has compiled regarding the Boost Nomination Pilot program.
Conclusion
I'm eager to read your stories! If you have any questions, feel free to drop a comment or send me a private note. I'm here to help!
