What I Hope to See in the Upcoming iPad Pro 2022 Model

Written on

Chapter 1: The Anticipated iPad Pro Update

It seems we were left empty-handed at Apple's Peek Performance event in March, right? While we did see the introduction of an M1-powered iPad Air, there was no sign of an upgrade for the iPad Pro, which is Apple’s flagship tablet. The last significant overhaul for this device was back in 2018, when Apple slimmed down the bezels, eliminated the home button, and introduced a sleek, squared design. That was quite some time ago, don't you think?

I have a somewhat intricate relationship with the iPad, but my anticipation for what Apple might unveil next for the iPad Pro is palpable. You might find it surprising, considering my previous complaints regarding the M1 chip in the iPad. Allow me to clarify.

Chapter 2: Rumors and Expectations for the iPad Pro 2022

In a recent edition of Mark Gurman's Power On newsletter, the prominent Apple insider hinted at intriguing details regarding the upcoming iPad Pro. According to Gurman, we can expect the new model to be unveiled between September and November, featuring MagSafe charging and a glass back. Additionally, it will house the M2 chip.

While that’s all the information currently available, I can't help but hope that Gurman's predictions are off and that we see something more groundbreaking from the next iPad Pro later this year. But, to continue with this article, I’ll keep my opinions in check for now.

Looking Beyond My Gripes with iPadOS

As I've mentioned previously, I find it puzzling why Apple hasn't fully utilized the capabilities of the M1 chip in the iPad Pro and iPad Air. However, I won't dwell on that today. You’re probably tired of me ranting about its limitations. Instead, with rumors about the iPad Pro on the rise, I thought it would be better to shift my focus to what I’d like to see in terms of hardware from this premium tablet.

Five Features I Wish to See in the New iPad Pro

I've reached a point where I initially believed we had achieved 'peak hardware' with the iPad. What more could possibly be added to a simple slab of aluminum and glass? As it turns out, I do have a few ideas—five, to be precise.

  1. Extended Battery Life

The iPad has always boasted impressive battery longevity, but I believe it’s time for Apple to aim for a two-day battery life. I've recently used smartphones that easily last two days on a single charge, and it significantly enhances the user experience. It changes how you interact with the device—you don’t have to worry as much about charging it overnight or maintaining battery percentage.

Such longevity would set the iPad Pro apart from other models.

  1. Lighter Magic Keyboard

I'm an admirer of the Magic Keyboard, which effectively turns the iPad Pro into a viable laptop replacement. However, its weight, especially with the 12.9" iPad Pro, can be cumbersome. I believe that with some engineering tweaks, Apple could produce a lighter version without sacrificing quality.

  2. MagSafe Integration

The rumors of MagSafe coming to the iPad Pro intrigue me, but I’m curious about its implementation. Will it borrow the magnetic system from the iPhone, or will it resemble the connector used in MacBook Pros? Personally, I favor the former, but I trust that Apple will surprise us with innovative accessories.

  3. Repositioned FaceTime Camera

The current placement of the FaceTime camera on the iPad is less than ideal. When I look at the screen during video calls, it often appears as if I’m looking off to the side or even downwards. A simple request: could Apple move the camera to the side of the device?

  4. Elimination of the 11-Inch Model

I’ve heard arguments in favor of keeping the 11-inch iPad Pro, but I disagree. The iPad Air offers great value and, while it lacks some features, it serves its purpose well. With the impending updates, I believe the 11-inch model should be discontinued to simplify the buying experience.

What do you think? What features would you like to see in the upcoming iPad Pro? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments!
