# Unlocking Medium's Partner Program: Your Guide to Earning Money
Written on
Chapter 1: Introduction to the Medium Partner Program
Congratulations on gaining your first 100 followers! This milestone is significant, as many writers on Medium struggle to achieve it. Now that you’ve reached this point, you may not be aware that you qualify for the Medium Partner Program, which enables you to monetize your articles on the platform.
However, it's important to understand that joining the Medium Partner Program is not automatic. Unlike what I initially believed, you must actively apply to become a member.
Section 1.1: Eligibility Criteria
The Medium Partner Program is currently available only to writers in specific countries, including Australia, Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States, among others. Unfortunately, territories outside of these listed nations are not supported at this time.
In addition to having at least 100 followers, applicants must be at least 18 years old and have published at least one story.
Subsection 1.1.1: How to Apply
To apply, visit the Medium website and click on the "Apply Now" button. You will be asked to provide some basic information, such as your follower count and a few other questions. The application process typically takes around two minutes.
Medium will notify you of your acceptance status within three business days; however, in my case, I received confirmation within just two hours. Be sure to keep an eye on the email linked to your Medium account for updates.
Section 1.2: After Acceptance
Once accepted, there are additional steps to complete before you can start earning money. First, you’ll need to set up a Stripe account on Medium’s website. Next, you’ll have to fill out your taxpayer information. Finally, to monetize your stories, you must place them behind a paywall.
For new stories, ensure you manually make them eligible for earning. Guidance on how to do this on Desktop, iOS, and Android can be found in the relevant section of the Medium platform.
You also have the option to place previously published stories behind a paywall, allowing you to begin earning from your past work.
To maintain your eligibility for earnings, Medium requires that you publish at least one story every six months. They reserve the right to disable monetization for writers who are inactive for six months or longer, although they will notify you before taking any action.
Chapter 2: Getting Started
Now that you're familiar with the application process and requirements, you can focus on creating valuable content that resonates with your audience.
