# Transitioning to Emerging Tech: A New Journey for Web3 Writers
Written on
Chapter 1: A Change of Direction
Let’s get straight to the point: I’m making a shift in my career. Whether you call it rebranding, niche hopping, or something else, it’s certainly not an easy decision. It’s disheartening when reliable writers suddenly abandon their loyal readers for the next big trend. But that’s the reality we face.
To summarize my experience in Web3:
Reflecting back a few months, the crypto landscape has dramatically changed. The collapse of high-profile figures like Scam Bankrun Fraud has led to a significant loss of faith and funds in the crypto market. The remnants of capital are cycling through various scams and hacks, leaving the situation quite bleak.
At the same time, the introduction of OpenAI’s ChatGPT has ignited an unprecedented online frenzy, prompting many disillusioned crypto enthusiasts to suddenly call themselves "Prompt Engineers."
This tumultuous period coincides with my own major life changes. I recently closed my freelance business, sold my home, relocated, and started anew, all while I was gaining traction in the Web3 space. My articles on blockchain were ranking well on Google, my game characters were entering The Sandbox, and I was receiving a steady flow of inquiries.
However, as financial opportunities dwindled, I faced the harsh reality of working with pseudonymous Web3 clients, which led to a lack of testimonials and credibility. Now, I’m refocusing my efforts on reputable brands and companies that can vouch for my work.
But it’s more than just that: I’m expanding my interests.
Intrinsic Motivation: The Key to Quality Content
Let’s be honest; as a professional writer, financial gain is a significant motivator. Yet, the most compelling writing arises from a genuine passion for the subject matter. Your writing should stem from a desire that goes beyond just making money.
Some might label me old-fashioned (though I’m not), but I have always been more fascinated by the long-term potential of distributed ledgers and smart contracts than by the allure of quick profits from meme coins.
I’m part of a niche group that is genuinely interested in the technology behind it all. This allows me to dedicate several days to crafting an in-depth article, rather than posting superficial content on social media with “Web3 Writer” attached to my profile.
The hype surrounding events like the Beeple sale made it clear to me that such marketing trends wouldn’t last, but the technology itself would endure. This realization is what drives my current pivot.
The Broader Landscape of Blockchain Infrastructure
Blockchain is not merely a product; it serves as foundational infrastructure. The challenge with Web3 marketing is akin to promoting HTTPS or HTML; it’s often dismissed by those not directly profiting from it.
Blockchain networks are integrating into the ever-evolving sphere of Emerging Tech. Just as AI is becoming ubiquitous across industries, blockchain technology is also on a trajectory toward widespread adoption.
But that’s just a glimpse of what Emerging Tech encompasses. Numerous industries, from nanotechnology to quantum computing and beyond, are developing rapidly. The prospect of these advancements excites me and fuels my creativity as a writer. I frequently delve into these topics, driven by my thirst for knowledge, and I find that teaching what I learn through writing reinforces my understanding.
As I pursue new learning opportunities, I have decided to broaden my focus. I’m not abandoning blockchain; rather, I’m taking a step back to view it from a wider perspective. I believe that Web3 can serve as a vital content pillar within the broader framework of Emerging Tech.
A Collective Shift Among Writers
While browsing my social media feeds recently, I noticed several other writers adding "Emerging Tech" to their bios. Initially, I felt apprehensive about appearing derivative, but then I realized that this trend validates my own shift. It suggests that many writers are recognizing that Emerging Tech represents a natural evolution for those of us who began our journeys in Web3.
We’re realizing that blockchain as infrastructure is far more significant than just cryptocurrency or digital art. This understanding has inspired me to learn, explore, and create fresh content. I haven’t felt this invigorated since I first ventured into the crypto realm.
Until next time,
Jason
