In my upbringing, the concept of being a people-pleaser was deeply ingrained. It was customary to feel compelled to say "yes" at all times. I was taught that:

  • Refusing requests from elders was disrespectful.
  • Turning down colleagues was seen as inconsiderate.
  • Declining a manager's request could lead to negative consequences.

Expressing discomfort was also discouraged; it was seen as a weakness. As a result, I developed a habit of seeking approval from others.

How to Change This Behavior?

The first step is learning to assertively say "NO." This simple word holds immense power. Recognizing your self-worth is crucial. I implement a straightforward approach to prioritize tasks in both my work and personal life. Each day, I focus on completing three essential tasks. If I cannot accomplish these, I’ve learned to decline additional requests. Only after completing my top priorities do I consider helping others if I still have the energy.

You’re Living for the Weekend

  • There is a subconscious belief that true enjoyment only comes on weekends.

While there’s nothing wrong with looking forward to the weekend, issues arise if you feel exhausted or unwell when it ends. To remedy this, prioritize your weekdays by tackling the most challenging tasks first thing in the morning. Additionally, take a moment during your lunch break to recharge, preferably with a nature walk.

Change can be intimidating, yet it is essential for growth. My grandmother used to compare stagnation to a still water reservoir, warning that it would eventually become foul.

Many financial experts provide guidance, but at its core, it’s about cultivating better habits. I adhere to the principle of never spending more than I earn. While exploring budgeting techniques can be beneficial, the fundamental rule is to live within your means.

You’re Stuck in the Past

Living in the past can hinder your ability to enjoy the present and build a bright future. Recognizing patterns in your emotions is essential, as certain triggers can bring back memories that are difficult to confront.

How to Move Forward?

Identify these patterns. Sometimes, letting go of material reminders of the past is necessary. Practicing mindfulness through walks or meditation can help ground you in the present.

You Spend Excessive Time Scrolling

Your mood and energy can be significantly impacted by social media use. Research indicates that people spend an average of over four hours daily on their phones.

How to Regulate Your Screen Time?

I follow a simple strategy: I check my screen time daily and limit my phone use to a maximum of 90 minutes. Some of my friends create app folders to minimize distractions, while others designate specific times for social media checks.

Breaking free from detrimental habits requires time and effort. It's a process of trial and error until you achieve success.
