Chapter 1: The Encounter
The man spotted the woman he had been searching for. She was jogging in the park, engaging with her clients. Encouraging them and correcting their techniques, he observed from a distance.
As her session concluded, her clients departed, but he lingered in the shadows, waiting for the right moment to approach. She donned a sweatshirt and began her walk home. Twice, she glanced in his direction, sending his heart racing with the fear of being caught, but she continued on her path, seemingly unaware of his presence.
She walked at a brisk pace, headphones blocking out the world, making her an easy target if she chose to take a shortcut through the park. He silently hoped for it, each step in the open increasing his anxiety of discovery. Yet, she remained oblivious, forcing him to keep a cautious distance—just far enough to avoid suspicion.
She paused briefly to check her phone before entering a charming neighborhood, passing through ornate gates that led to a grand, ivy-clad brick manor. Curiosity piqued, he approached the entrance.
Surely, she couldn't live alone in such an immense house. The gothic architecture, with its intricate gargoyles, seemed to watch him with judgment. He pressed the intercom button and announced himself.
"Come in," her voice rang out, youthful and cheerful.
He stepped onto the path, and as he ascended the steps, she opened the door.
"Hello?" he called out.
"You seem taken aback to see me."
"With a house like this, I expected a butler to greet me."
"You know people like us prefer solitude."
"I'm not one of your kind."
"Are you sure? I think that changed the other night."
"That's why I'm here."
"What do you mean?"
"Just look at me," he replied.
"I am," she responded, "and I don’t see an issue."
"I'm still the same overweight guy I was before this transformation."
"Not quite," she smiled. Despite her youthful appearance, he estimated her age to be over a century. "You look like a pudgy vampire," she teased, poking his belly, which, though lifeless, still jiggled.
"That's the issue," he retorted. "When I found the ultimate personal trainer who could whip anyone into shape overnight, this isn't what I had in mind."
"Technically, I never claimed you'd shed pounds."
"Yes, you did."
"No, I said you'd be quicker and more powerful than you ever dreamed possible. And look at you now."
"True," he admitted, "but it wasn't what I expected."
"That's not my responsibility."
"So, what's next for us?"
"What do you mean?"
"Now that I’m a vampire, aren’t you going to help me shed the weight?"
"Oh, no," she replied, "the body you acquire when you become a vampire is your permanent form."
