Chapter 1: Introduction to the HyperX Pulsefire Haste

Last year, when I reviewed the wired version of the HyperX Pulsefire Haste, I pointed out its only significant drawback: the absence of a wireless variant. Otherwise, it was an outstanding PC gaming mouse—elegantly designed, lightweight, and equipped with a reliable sensor, all for under $50.

This year, HyperX stepped up by launching the wireless version of the Pulsefire Haste. The question remains: does it achieve the same remarkable balance of cost and performance? And can it be surpassed by any other mouse on the market?

I had the opportunity to attend a virtual press conference showcasing this mouse along with HyperX's 2022 product lineup last December. However, I have since stopped accepting review units from HyperX and other brands, as I am now focusing primarily on gaming software coverage.

Still, my curiosity led me to purchase the mouse at retail, as I wanted to experience it firsthand. I do not use affiliate links, and even when I received samples, I refrained from monetizing those reviews. You can read my complete reviews policy here.

Chapter 2: Design and Build Quality

The HyperX Pulsefire Haste Wireless retails for just $79, making it an attractive choice for gamers looking for an ultralight model. Weighing in at a mere 61g, it’s only slightly heavier than its wired counterpart—this weight difference is hardly noticeable. This is impressive, as wireless mice typically gain at least 5 to 7 grams due to additional components like batteries.

In terms of specifications, the wireless Pulsefire Haste utilizes the same PixArt 3335 sensor found in the wired version. This sensor is both efficient and budget-friendly, yet it shares a lineage with the more advanced PixArt 3370. HyperX also clearly states which sensor is included on the packaging. The mouse can track up to 16,000 DPI, and by using HyperX’s Ngenuity software, users can adjust the lift-off distance and create custom DPI profiles accessible via a button beneath the scroll wheel.

The button mechanisms have received a slight upgrade, now featuring TTC's 80 million click lifespan dustproof gold switches instead of the 60 million click versions used in the wired model. Some online sources have claimed that the 80 million click switches feel less responsive, but in my side-by-side comparison of both versions, the difference was negligible. The buttons maintain a satisfying click with minimal pre- and post-travel, while the scroll wheel remains the same smooth model found in the wired version.

Chapter 3: Performance and Ergonomics

Included in the package is HyperX’s compact wireless USB receiver, a USB extension puck, additional skates, grip tape, and a braided "HyperFlex" cable. The receiver and puck closely resemble those that came with the Pulsefire Dart, which I have previously reviewed favorably. I was pleasantly surprised to find the extension included with this more affordable model. While the cable may not be as flexible as that of the original wired version, it remains one of the better options available.

Ergonomically, the Haste Wireless adopts the same shape as its wired counterpart. The semi-ambidextrous design feels comfortable across various grip styles, with a hump that supports my hand well during palm grips. The term "semi-ambidextrous" is used here because it only features thumb buttons on the left side. Although these buttons are smaller than average, they are still easy to operate. The weight is perfectly centered, making it effortless to lift and maneuver during intense gameplay.

Some mouse enthusiasts may argue that the 3335 sensor is too basic and lacks precision, but I found it performs excellently. Any perceived differences compared to higher-end models during my testing were likely due to placebo effects. I typically test mice at around 1800 DPI, and tracking on my SteelSeries QCK pad was flawless across all games I played. I completed the campaign of Control, explored DLC, and played several hours of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, alongside various multiplayer sessions with a friend. Throughout, the mouse functioned without any issues, and the lift-off distance felt just right at its lowest 1mm setting.

Chapter 4: Battery Life and Final Thoughts

The battery life is rated at up to 100 hours, though achieving this requires turning off the RGB lighting. Activating the RGB reduces battery life significantly, depending on the effect and brightness levels used. Nonetheless, the battery performance aligns well with other premium mice on the market. The mouse quickly wakes from sleep mode upon movement, and it charges rapidly via a USB-C connection.

Are there any deal-breakers? No, none whatsoever. This wireless version is an excellent adaptation of an already fantastic wired mouse. The only minor issue I found was somewhat trivial: the previously hollow section at the bottom of the mouse is now partially filled with a compartment for storing the dongle when not in use. While this change does not affect performance, it does eliminate the visual aspect of being able to see your desk through the mouse.

In any case, it’s impressive that the mouse manages to incorporate a battery, wireless transmitter, and a storage slot for the dongle while maintaining a weight similar to the wired version. The engineering behind this is truly commendable. During the press briefing last December, I was surprised they weren't more enthusiastic about it.

HyperX has substantial confidence in this mouse, as it outshines entire product lines from other brands. Notably, it eclipses several SteelSeries offerings. For instance, the SteelSeries Aerox 3 Wireless employs the same sensor, a similar design, and comparable buttons, yet it weighs nearly 10g more and costs an additional $20. Moving forward, I see no reason for anyone to choose the Aerox 3 unless they are entrenched in that ecosystem. Their pricier Aerox 5, 9, and Prime Wireless mice share similar components, making them hard to recommend over the comfortable and high-performing Haste.

The excellent engineering and robust performance of the Haste Wireless, combined with its affordable price, starkly contrast with the inflated costs of all SteelSeries mice featuring the 3335 sensor. SteelSeries offers mice priced between $100 and $150 that use essentially the same components as the HyperX model, and users must utilize their bulkier SteelSeries GG software for configuration.

While Ngenuity may not be the most feature-rich software, it allows users to set up the mouse, save settings, and then forget about it. That’s my approach.

I am genuinely impressed with the Pulsefire Haste Wireless. As a fan of the wired version and a discerning reviewer, I acknowledge that it lacks Bluetooth connectivity and the sophisticated optical switches of some high-end models like the Kone Pro Air. Additionally, it no longer features a transparent section on the back. Nevertheless, it remains an exceptional piece of hardware for the price and is a serious contender for anyone in search of a lightweight ambidextrous mouse. I plan to keep it on my desk until it breaks or until a fun new colorway prompts me to buy a second one.
