Chapter 2: Dr. Kraushaar's Journey into Health Science
Guten Tag, Dr. Lutz! Could you share a bit about your background?
Thank you for having me, Dr. Yildiz. My academic journey began with a Doctorate in Public Health Sciences, complemented by a Master's in Exercise and Nutrition. I transitioned to this field at age 40, marking a significant shift from my earlier career in commercial management, where I worked for a large German corporation and later as an independent consultant.
My motivation for this dramatic change was to reconcile my health habits with my aspirations for successful aging—specifically, to avoid chronic diseases and maintain an enjoyable lifestyle. I realized that many health trends were often misleading, as evidenced by the changing reputations of foods like eggs and margarine over the decades.
During this period, I recognized that my only consistent health behavior was exercise. After struggling with my physique despite my efforts, I delved deeper into the science of exercise by obtaining a trainer license from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), which had a branch in Singapore where I resided at the time.
Through this experience, I discovered two critical truths: first, that exercise is essential for health, and second, that individual responses to health interventions can vary widely. This realization led me to pursue further academic qualifications, culminating in a doctorate.
Section 2.1: Insights into Lifestyle Medicine
My work primarily revolves around lifestyle medicine, the science of biological aging, and single-case experimental designs. My focus is on preventing cardiometabolic diseases through lifestyle modifications. Essentially, I aim to provide individuals with strategies to protect themselves from conditions like heart attacks, strokes, and diabetes.
To achieve this, I translate group-level clinical research into personalized health strategies. For instance, the American Heart Association's "Life’s Essential Eight" outlines behaviors that correlate with longevity, such as not smoking, maintaining a healthy diet, and exercising regularly. While data shows that individuals who adhere to these guidelines often live disease-free into their 90s, only about 3% of the population can maintain all these behaviors.
This disparity suggests a need for a new approach in health promotion. Not everyone must follow every guideline to stay healthy; rather, understanding which combinations of behaviors work for each individual is crucial.
To facilitate this, I advocate for the N-of-1 method, allowing individuals to conduct personal health trials to determine the most effective lifestyle choices for them. This approach emphasizes biological age as a more relatable and motivating benchmark for assessing health.

Chapter 3: Scientific Work and Personal Insights
Initially, my research focused on basic science, particularly in extracting vascular function parameters from non-invasive recordings. This work contributed to the development of a medical device, and I was fortunate to collaborate with Dr. Pascal Bauer, an expert in preventive medicine, on clinical trials that further translated our findings into actionable health interventions.
At the age of 67, I remain passionate about maintaining my health without medication or disease. My wife, who is biologically younger than her chronological age, inspires me further to explore the science behind healthy aging.

Section 3.1: Balancing Work and Life
I find the notion of work-life balance somewhat perplexing. For me, work and life are intertwined, as I have managed to turn my passion into my profession. My only respite from work thoughts is when I ride my motorcycle, a shared passion with my wife.
Section 3.2: Advice for Aspiring Scientists
To those entering the field, I emphasize the importance of curiosity and critical thinking. Instead of attempting to validate your hypotheses, focus on challenging them. This mindset can lead to more meaningful discoveries.
Section 3.3: Personal Interests
While exercise is a daily routine for me, my true hobby lies in riding my motorcycle, which my wife and I enjoy together during our travels.
Chapter 4: Conclusion and Future Aspirations
In conclusion, I strive to improve continuously as a writer and to serve as a role model for healthy aging. I invite readers to explore my work on the adiphea platform, where I share insights aimed at empowering individuals to discover their minimum viable health habits.
Thank you for taking the time to engage with this interview. I encourage you to connect with Dr. Lutz Kraushaar and explore his impactful writings on health and longevity. Additionally, check out other influential writers I have introduced, and consider following their journeys.
