10 Essential Apps for Blogging You Should Consider in 2024

Chapter 1: Introduction to My Blogging Journey
Having been a blogger for several years, I've come across numerous apps that have significantly improved my content creation process and overall productivity. My blogging adventure began in 2015 with a student blog titled Dominiks Computing Blog, where I chronicled my learning and projects. It was only after several attempts that I truly embraced blogging, leading to the success of my current platform, techwithdom.com.
As I reflect on my journey, I want to share the tools that have been instrumental in refining my blogging skills. Below are ten essential applications that I find invaluable for my blogging endeavors.
Section 1.1: Bublup
Bublup is a relatively new addition to my toolkit, but it has quickly proven to be a game changer for my workflow. For more insights, check out my detailed review! This app is available on web, Android, and iOS, offering a unique approach to organizing and showcasing your work.
In my blogging activities, I utilize Bublup to bookmark intriguing articles for future reference, as well as to gather ideas for upcoming posts. One of its standout features is the creation of "Rolls," which are streamlined web pages compiling all content from a specific folder. This is particularly useful for presenting my work and sharing valuable articles.
Additionally, Bublup serves as a fantastic lead magnet, allowing me to capture email addresses for my MailChimp and ConvertKit newsletters. I plan to delve deeper into this topic in a future article!
Section 1.2: Medium Enhanced Stats & Tags
Another tool I've recently integrated into my routine is the Medium Enhanced Stats & Tags, a Chrome extension that elevates the way I analyze my Medium engagement. This free tool provides comprehensive insights into my reach and article performance, enhancing my content strategy.
After sharing my posts on Medium for over a year, I regret not discovering this extension sooner. It has significantly improved my understanding of audience engagement and content effectiveness.
Subsection 1.2.1: Google Sheets
You might be surprised to hear me praise spreadsheets, but they are incredibly versatile tools for blogging! After reading Mark Ellis's guide on generating income through Medium, I created a spreadsheet to organize my ideas, which has substantially increased my productivity.
I maintain separate sheets for my blog, YouTube channel, and newsletters, making it easy to jot down ideas whenever inspiration strikes.
Section 1.3: Google Docs
Continuing with Google tools, Google Docs is where I draft all my blog posts. Its compatibility across various operating systems and collaborative features make it my go-to writing platform. I previously used Microsoft Word and Ulysses, but since transitioning to Google Workspace, I've found Google Docs to be the most efficient choice for my writing needs.
Section 1.4: Grammarly
Grammarly is an indispensable tool in my writing arsenal. This app not only checks for grammar and spelling errors but also offers stylistic suggestions to enhance clarity and engagement. Having used Grammarly throughout my university years, it has helped me refine my writing and catch mistakes I might otherwise overlook.
It's available on multiple platforms, making it easy to integrate into my workflow.
Section 1.5: TinyPNG
When it comes to optimizing images for my blog, TinyPNG is essential. Large images can slow down page load times, so I use this free online tool to compress graphics without sacrificing quality. It’s quick, user-friendly, and doesn't require an account, which makes it ideal for my needs.
Section 1.6: Canva
Canva is another favorite of mine for creating eye-catching thumbnails and social media graphics. This free-to-use platform offers a plethora of templates that simplify the design process, making it a superior alternative to the now-discontinued Adobe Fireworks.
Section 1.7: KanbanFlow
KanbanFlow aids me in organizing my weekly tasks effectively. Introduced to me by John Sonmez from Bulldog Mindset, it has become my preferred method for planning. Although it lacks a dedicated smartphone app, I can easily create a shortcut for quick access.
Section 1.8: NordVPN
While NordVPN isn't solely a blogging tool, it's crucial for my content creation on the go. With the frequent use of public WiFi, I needed a reliable VPN for secure browsing. NordVPN not only provides strong protection but also features like threat detection and a dark web monitor, ensuring my online safety.
Section 1.9: Notion
Lastly, there's Notion, which I use for managing my blog and YouTube channel. Although my usage has decreased, I appreciate its organizational capabilities and the availability of templates for planning various projects.
Final Thoughts
In conclusion, there are countless applications available to aid bloggers, but I wanted to highlight the ones that have genuinely transformed my workflow. If you have any favorite blogging tools that I missed, feel free to share in the comments or let me know your top three apps!
