Empowering Women in the NFT Space: 8 Notable Collections

Written on

In the rapidly evolving realm of NFTs, it's hard to ignore the overwhelming male presence. This technology, often viewed as niche and linked to cryptocurrency, tends to attract more male participants than female. This trend is evident in the artwork, particularly in the NFT avatar sector, where the majority of creators and avatars appear to cater to a male audience. While I myself am a male collector, I firmly believe in the importance of increasing female representation in this space.

It's heartening to see a growing number of women contributing to the NFT landscape and creating artworks that reflect their experiences. Their contributions enhance the community in countless ways. Some collections, like 0N1 Force and Skvllpvnkz, feature a balanced mix of male and female avatars. However, many collections focus exclusively on women, showcasing remarkable talent and some of the finest art in the NFT domain while actively supporting women and related organizations. This article aims to spotlight such collections.

This overview is not financial advice; rather, it serves to highlight outstanding NFT collections ideal for women seeking suitable avatars or anyone wishing to add more female representation to their digital wallets. If I’ve overlooked any noteworthy collections, please share them in the comments!

World of Women

World of Women ranks among the most celebrated female-centric NFT collections and is one of the most renowned NFT series overall. Created by artist Yam, its distinct, colorful, hand-drawn style is easily recognizable.

With notable supporters like Gary Vaynerchuk and Reese Witherspoon, this collection commands the highest price point on this list. As of now, the least expensive piece on OpenSea is listed for 1.6 ETH (approximately $7,400), yet many believe this iconic artwork is worth the investment.

Sad Girls Bar

Sad Girls Bar distinguishes itself with its striking monochromatic, black-and-white artwork. I personally admire their aesthetic and have acquired Sad Girl #1029 and #7116. You can own one starting at just 0.06 ETH ($280).

Currently, owners can mint a free companion Skeletongue for each Sad Girl they possess (until November 12, 2021). The team has also hinted at an upcoming Sad Cats launch!

Crypto.Chick(s)

Launched in May 2021, the Crypto.Chick collection, featuring 200 unique pieces, was the first female-focused NFT initiative. Due to its limited nature and historical importance, the lowest-priced Crypto.Chick currently goes for 0.4 ETH.

The creators later introduced a follow-up collection of 10,000 Crypto.Chicks, maintaining a connection to the originals while showcasing more vibrant colors and gradients. If you're searching for a stunning female avatar, these offer great value at just 0.07 ETH ($320) for the cheapest options.

Fatales

Fatales garnered significant attention upon its August 31 launch, partly due to the involvement of 2476 (formerly known as Artchick). While recent interest may have waned and prices have dipped, the collection remains noteworthy.

Although I have no personal stake in the project, I consider the current price of 0.022 ETH ($100) a reasonable deal for the artwork alone.

ENCRYPTAS

The faceless avatars in the ENCRYPTAS collection aim to highlight women's rising influence in technology and science while emphasizing the significance of privacy and data usage online. The anonymous artist, CypherCHK, creates these thought-provoking pieces.

Designed to exude confidence and power, these avatars occupy considerable space in their frames, with fashion inspired by millennial and Gen Z trends. I admire CypherCHK’s work for its representation and encourage you to listen to her interviews to learn more about ENCRYPTAS and her 101 Babes collection.

Fame Lady Squad

Fame Lady Squad has one of the most compelling narratives in the NFT space. Launched in early July, it quickly gained traction as the first all-female-led NFT project, though it was later revealed that the founders were actually a group of men.

Following considerable backlash, the founders transferred control of the project to three prominent community members. The project was re-launched on August 24 as a fully community-led initiative. If you appreciate the art and wish to support this groundbreaking project, you can acquire a Fame Lady for around 0.08 ETH ($370).

Women and Weapons

Launched on October 23, 2021, Women and Weapons is the newest collection on this list. It features 10,000 "diverse, beautiful, and badass women NFTs," all hand-drawn by artist Sara Baumann, also known as Sparky.

You can still find a WAW on OpenSea for 0.08 ETH, with 5% of sales going to The Malala Fund Charity.

Cool Lady Club

Since its launch on August 26, the Cool Lady Club has not garnered as much attention as the others. In fact, a significant portion of the collection, which consists of 1,999 Cool Ladies, remains unsold. However, since they launched directly on OpenSea, you can explore the entire collection there, with new pieces available for 0.02 ETH ($90).

The artwork shares similarities with the styles of World of Women and Crypto.Chicks, featuring vibrant colors and prominent gradients. If you enjoy the art and wish to back an under-the-radar project at a low entry price, consider checking out Cool Lady Club.

Final Thoughts

The NFT space—and indeed all spheres—benefit from increased female participation. Supporting initiatives aimed at enhancing diversity and female representation is a meaningful way to contribute. That’s my goal with this article.

If you believe there are notable collections I may have missed, please share them so I can explore and potentially include them in a future piece!
