AI: The Clown in the Room—A Reflection on Technology and Fear

Chapter 1: The Eerie Connection Between AI and Clowns
When we think of fear, clowns often come to mind, largely due to notorious figures like John Wayne Gacy, who infamously performed as Pogo the Clown while committing heinous acts against at least 33 young men and boys. This history contributes to a widespread fear of clowns.
One of the key reasons for this fear lies in the “exaggerated facial features and makeup” that obscure genuine emotions, creating a sense of unease. Similarly, AI exhibits exaggerated traits that may conceal darker intentions. The underlying motives of AI remain largely unknown, raising concerns that its true nature might only surface after significant damage has occurred.
Moreover, survey findings suggest that the unpredictable behavior of clowns adds to their terrifying reputation. Reports indicate that AI is already exhibiting erratic behavior, and as this technology evolves, it may become increasingly uncontrollable.
Currently, there seems to be no established framework for addressing unexpected outcomes from AI, leaving even its creators uncertain about future developments. This unpredictability can be likened to a playful kitten that unexpectedly turns dangerous.
Researchers who have examined the fear of clowns noted an “uncanny valley effect,” where clowns appear human-like but not quite human enough, exacerbated by their heavy makeup. This is a valid concern for AI as well; it may mimic human interaction, providing advice and comfort, yet it will never truly possess humanity. The challenge lies in humans’ limited ability to differentiate between authentic kindness and that generated by machines.
While many will argue in favor of AI, extolling its potential benefits and portraying it as a benign force, I remain skeptical. I do not see a future where AI brings about significant enlightenment or solutions to our pressing issues. In fact, I question whether AI will even persist into the next decade.
Section 1.1: The Infrastructure Dilemma
A critical issue that supporters of technology often overlook is the importance of infrastructure. We are teetering on the brink of a major failure in our electrical grid. A recent report highlighted a troubling scenario: a five-day heatwave coupled with a blackout in Phoenix could lead to nearly 817,000 people—over half the city’s population—requiring emergency medical care.
The infrastructure supporting technology is fragile; the tenth largest data center in the U.S. is located in Phoenix, and just a few years ago, Texas experienced a catastrophic power outage during winter. As our planet warms and becomes less stable, the strain on our power grid is likely to expose technology's vulnerabilities. If the grid cannot sustain essential services like cooling and refrigeration, AI may quickly fall down the priority list.
I could be mistaken in my assessment, as it’s possible that the loss of thousands of lives might be deemed acceptable in the quest to sustain technological advancements. It's crucial to consider this when contemplating the adoption of AI. If your region becomes unbearably hot without air conditioning, you might assume that the power companies would prioritize saving lives. Unfortunately, that assumption could be misguided.
The continuation of corporate agendas often overshadows human life, as evidenced by the millions lost during the COVID-19 pandemic and the increasing number of homeless and sick individuals.
So, take a moment to reflect on this reality. To those in power, you may be viewed merely as an inconvenience—an unwanted pest to be eliminated.
Chapter 2: The Dual Nature of AI and Clowns
In the first video titled "Testing an AI clown is not as fun as you’d think / Let's Play The Prototype," the complexities and potential dangers of AI are humorously yet chillingly explored.
The second video, "Clown Carnival Deep Below (2025) Official AI Trailer | Midjourney & Runway Gen 2," delves into the eerie and unsettling aspects of AI in a clown-themed narrative.
